Pet Sung Kat is a herb utilized for a variety of uses in many nations primary for ailments concerning the bones. As in mending broken or fractured bones but applied externally. Traditionally, the herb is sometimes used as such by Thai people but present research has confirmed this property. Studies reveal that Pet Sung Kat composes of Vitamin C and Carotene acting as an anti-oxidant as high as 398mg and 267mg/100 gram fresh herb respectively. It is able to prevent cell degradation from the onslaught of free radicals. However, Thai people mainly use the herb for treating hemorrhoid which is prepared as a drug to be taken orally prepared with bananas or cucumber or crush into powder mixed with tamarind. It should not be taken fresh as this can cause allergic reaction from high calcium oxalate present. Toxicological findings show the herb to have no toxic effects.
